During its 50th anniversary year, the School of Visual Arts honored Seymour Chwast with its Masters Award, celebrated with a retrospective of his work at its Visual Arts Museum. The exhibition was curated by leading graphic designer (and Chwast’s wife) Paula Scher. In his design for the poster and his related lecture, Chwast cleverly creates a rectilinear outline of his own “American Head” that doubles as a sketch map of New York showing the route from Chwast’s apartment to the School of Visual Arts.
