Here Chwast promotes an exhibition of design, illustration, and photography at the Mead Library of Ideas, a gallery maintained by the Mead paper company in New York’s Pan Am building (now the MetLife building), with an irreverent image in the style of a cartoon strip. Each cell records one stage in an artist’s journey to oblivion as a sultry nude woman he has drawn lures him into the sheet of paper into which he ultimately disappears entirely. This was one of several exhibitions held by the gallery in the 1970s presenting contemporary graphic design.
