Chwast’s poster for the Guggenheim Museum’s 1983 edition of its annual exhibition A Year With Children reflects his charming and thoughtful illustrations for children’s books. The exhibition series, introduced in 1971 and still going strong, displays the work of children in New York City’s public elementary schools who are participants in the museum’s Learning Through Art (LTA) program; in 1983, as the poster indicates, it was still called “Learning to Read Through the Arts.”
