Three French peasant women are shown dragging a heavy plough across the land, replacing men and draft animals at the front, in this poster by an unknown designer encouraging Canadians to buy war bonds during World War I. The image was based on a famous photo by Brown Brothers (this information appears in the margin of some impressions of the poster) that was published in Parisian and American newspapers in an effort to appeal to the consciences of their readers. A French-language variant also exists and reminded French Canadians in particular of their historic and cultural connections to France.
