This poster on solar energy was one of a series of five designed by Ilona Sochynsky of Ilona Sochynsky Associates as part of a PR campaign by Mobil Oil Corporation to demonstrate that it was investigating better sources of energy, an effort that would today be described as “greenwashing.” The posters were displayed internally in all Mobil offices to make employees and visitors aware of the corporation’s declared efforts to contribute to a cleaner environment. Mobil merged with Exxon in 1999, becoming ExxonMobil. The vast majority of its operations remain based on fossil fuels.
